Composer Performer Artist

Living in Austin, Texas since 1997. Joaquin Flores has had his works performed in cities such as: Monterrey, Mexico City, Puebla and Oaxaca, in Mexico, as well as, San Antonio, Dallas, and, Kingsville in Texas, USA.

Commissioned to write music for “Tonatiuhichan”, a contemporary dance work, choreographed by Wendy Alencaster that was performed at the Monterrey City Hall in June 1997.
Recipient of a grant by the Consejo Estatal para la Cultura y las Artes de N.L. for my project: “Redescubrimiento”, a four movement work for choir and orchestra. In May 1997, it is premiered by the Orquestra Juvenil de N.L. and Coro UDEM.
Obtained 2nd place for “Mecahuehuetl” (The Stringed Drum) in a competition organized by Orquesta Sinfonica de Nuevo Leon and the Music School of Universidad Autonoma de N.L. The first place was declared deserted. The work is for string orchestra, percussion and aleatoric flute. It was performed by the orchestra in 1993.

Received an honorable mention for “Muerte Sin Muerte”, a 12 min. piece for 16 guitars, in a competition for micro-tonal music produced by Urban-15 and coordinated by George Cisneros. A recording from a 1983 performance at the International Arts Festival in Monterrey, was played at the International Arts Festival in San Antonio in 1988.

I studied composition with Nicandro E. Tamez from 1974 to 1980. I also studied composition with Radko Tichavsky from 1988 to 1992.

Studied classical guitar with renowned guitarist Ramon Donadio, and, Jose I. Ramos.

As well as a master class with renowned Cuban composer and guitarist Leo Brouwer.

I have a home studio where I am honing my recording and mixing skills.

Finished the piece for Classical Guitar called: CYBERTEX. working on a guitar suite.

Currently working on Guitar Study No2 "IXTLANDURIA"

In 2011 I composed "FALLEN", a short film soundtrack. An excerpt (4 min) of the music is available here.
I'll continue working on film scores, music for documentaries, video games, television, commercials, anything goes. I'm good on meeting deadlines

A new piece named: MAYAN TEMPLE is composed of computer generated sequences produced by music program: Magix Music Maker, using Valkerie as a sample, and, later, edited and arranged by yours truly.
